Whatsapp Can't Video Call, Here's How To Solve It

Are you facing the problem of the WhatsApp application not being able to make video calls? Of course this can be quite disturbing, especially when there is a work need or urgent matter. As we know, the WA application has a video call feature. With this feature we can communicate face to face with the other person. Then, how to solve WhatsApp can't video call? Well, before discussing it, you should know what causes the video call feature in WA not to work (error messages, videos not showing, etc.).

How to solve Whatsapp Can't Video Call

Cause Whatsapp Can't Video Call

There are quite a few reasons why WhatsApp can't make video calls. Here are some of the most common causes:

  • The user has not given camera access permission to the WhatsApp application. This usually happens on Android Lollipop versions and above.
  • The user has not allowed WhatsApp to access the mic feature.
  • The WhatsApp application on your phone has a bug (error).
  • Internet connection is not stable.
  • Your WhatsApp number is blocked by the destination contact.

Well, before solving this problem, it's a good idea to know the cause first. Problems can occur not only from the WhatsApp application, but also from mobile devices.

How to Overcome WhatsApp Can't Video Call

OK, you already know what is causing the problem with the WhatsApp video call feature on your phone. Now is the time to fix the problem.

Allow WhatsApp to Access Phone Camera

The main purpose of allowing WhatsApp to access the camera is so that the camera feature can be used when making video calls. The WA application will use the front camera when we make video calls.

Follow these steps to grant such access:

  • Go to Settings on your Android.
  • Go to the Applications section.
  • Look for the WhatsApp application there, then open it.
  • Tap the Permissions menu, tap the Camera menu.
  • Check the Allow only when the app is in use.
  • Then restart your phone.

After doing these steps, try to repeat using a video call on WhatsApp. Usually this method can immediately solve the problem of not being able to access the camera or WhatsApp video calls that are dark (no picture).

Allow WhatsApp to Access the Microphone

WhatsApp also requires permission to access the mic on your cellphone in order to make video calls properly. Otherwise, the video call activity will be problematic because there is no sound.

Grant microphone access permission by following these steps:

  • Go to Settings on your Android.
  • Open the Applications menu.
  • Look for the WhatsApp application there, then open it.
  • Tap the Permissions menu, tap Mic or Microphone.
  • Check the Allow only when the app is in use.
  • Then restart the phone.

Usually, this option is already in an allowed condition because usually when using WA to call the access permission has been requested beforehand. So, if it's already active then you just have to try it again.

Clear WhatsApp Cache

Clearing WhatsApp cache can solve the problem of WhatsApp not being able to make video calls.

Clear the WA cache on your phone by following these steps:

  • Go to Settings on your Android.
  • Open the Applications menu.
  • Look for the WhatsApp application there, then open it.
  • Open the Storage menu, then click Clear memory.
  • Tap the back button on your phone once, then tap the Force stop button.
  • Next, open the WhatsApp application to try video calling.

Make sure the phone is connected to the internet

A bad or unstable internet connection can cause video calls on WhatsApp to be inaccessible. If the internet connection is unstable, WhatsApp will usually end up with an "ended" message or the display on the screen looks stuck or does not change.

If the internet is the problem then you need to change the provider. The WhatsApp application requires an internet connection of at least 1 Mbps to be used for video calls.

Check Blocked Contact List

The problem of WhatsApp not being able to make video calls can also occur if the contact number you've contacted has been blocked or your number has been blocked.

You can check the list of contacts that have been blocked. Here are the steps:

  • Go to Settings in the WhatsApp App.
  • Go to Account menu > go to Privacy.
  • Open the Blocked contacts menu.

If you have blocked someone's number and want to call back, then you must remove the contact from the block list.

Then, how do you know if your number is blocked or not?

Easy. Here are some signs that your number is blocked:

  • You can't see contact status, online or not.
  • The contact's WA profile never changes.
  • The text message you sent only ticked one.
  • You cannot make WhatsApp calls to these contacts.

Reinstall WhatsApp

The last step you can try is to reinstall the WhatsApp application. This method is effective if the problem is with the WA application, for example there is a bug.

It's very easy, just uninstall and then reinstall the WhatsApp application. Please note, make sure to make a backup first and your WA number is still active so that it can be used during re-verification.

in case you don't know how, here's how to quickly uninstall the WA application:

  • Open your phone > find the WhatsApp button on the phone screen.
  • Press the WhatsApp button for 2 seconds, a pop up menu will appear.
  • Tap the Uninstall button.

After uninstalling WA, then all you have to do is reinstall it from the Play Store.

  • Go to Play Store.
  • Look for the WhatsApp application.
  • Tap the Install button.
  • Wait until the installation process is complete.
  • Log back into WhatsApp using your account.

Sometimes the problems that occur in the WhatsApp application can also be because the WhatsApp server is experiencing problems. This is marked by not being able to send messages, photos, and other activities on WhatsApp. If this happens, you can only wait for the annoyance to end. Usually this kind of disturbance is very rare and only briefly.
